What local SEO actually means for a Huddersfield business

Local SEO is the work that makes your business appear when someone nearby searches for what you do — in the map results and in the ordinary blue links. For a Huddersfield business it comes down to four things: a properly filled-in Google Business Profile, consistent name, address and phone details, a separate page for each service and town you cover, and a steady flow of genuine reviews.

The two results you're competing for

Search "electrician Huddersfield" and you get a map with three businesses on it, then the normal list of websites underneath. They're ranked differently. The map results lean heavily on your Google Business Profile, your proximity to the searcher and your reviews. The blue links below are won by your website's pages.

The order to do things in

  1. Claim and complete your Google Business Profile: correct category, service areas, hours, photos and a description.
  2. Make your name, address and phone number identical everywhere they appear — website footer, profile, directories, social bios.
  3. Give every service its own page instead of one page listing everything.
  4. Add a page for each town you genuinely work in, with real detail about work there — not a copy with the name swapped.
  5. Ask for reviews consistently, and reply to every one.
  6. Publish a few useful articles that answer the questions customers actually ask you.

Why one page listing every service doesn't work

Google ranks pages, not businesses. A single page trying to cover boilers, bathrooms and emergency callouts competes weakly for all three. Three focused pages each have a clear subject and can each rank.

Reviews are ranking signals, not just decoration

Google's own guidance names reviews and profile completeness among the things that affect local ranking, alongside relevance, distance and prominence. Asking every satisfied customer, every time, is unglamorous and effective.

How long does it take?

Profile changes can shift map visibility within weeks. Website pages usually take a few months to settle. Local SEO is compounding work, not a switch.

Common questions

Do I need a physical address?

No. If you travel to customers you can hide the address and set service areas instead — that's the correct setup for trades.

Can I rank in towns I'm not based in?

In the blue links, yes, with a genuine page about your work there. In the map pack, distance from the searcher still counts heavily against you.
