Huddersfield town centre is being rebuilt. Is your online presence ready?
Kirklees Council's Huddersfield Blueprint programme — including a £20.2m approval in 2022 to redevelop the George Hotel into a 91-bed hotel — is changing what brings people into the town centre. Businesses that build their search visibility now are the ones that capture the footfall when it arrives, rather than competing for it from scratch.

What's actually happening
The Huddersfield Blueprint is Kirklees Council's town-centre regeneration programme. The most visible single project is the George Hotel: Cabinet approved £20.2m in October 2022 for its refurbishment as a 91-bed hotel, with a further update taken to Cabinet in November 2024. Alongside it sit the wider town-centre proposals the council groups under the same programme.
Why it matters to a business that isn't in the town centre
More overnight visitors and more town-centre events mean more people searching for things they can't get from memory: where to eat, where to park, who does emergency repairs, what's open on a Sunday. Those are search-led decisions made by people with no local knowledge at all.
How to be ready
- Get the Google Business Profile complete and current — hours, photos, services, weekly posts.
- Publish the practical detail visitors need: parking, access, opening times, whether you take walk-ins.
- Build content aimed at visitor searches, not just local ones.
- Make sure the site is fast on mobile data, because that's the only device involved.
Search visibility takes months, not days
This is the argument for starting before the footfall arrives. Pages published today accumulate authority; pages published the week a hotel opens compete against sites that have been there for a year.
