Websites for schools, academies and training providers: what actually wins work in 2026

Statutory information is buried, parents cannot find term dates on a phone, and the site fails accessibility rules it is legally required to meet. A website that wins work for schools, academies and training providers does three things: it ranks for what buyers actually type, it answers the qualifying questions on the page rather than on a phone call, and it turns each enquiry into a tracked record instead of an email. Expect £700–£950 for a build at this level, plus ongoing SEO if you want to be found rather than just presentable.

The problem with most sites in this sector

Statutory information is buried, parents cannot find term dates on a phone, and the site fails accessibility rules it is legally required to meet.

The result is predictable. Buyers who were ready to place work leave without contacting you, and the enquiries that do arrive take three phone calls to qualify. Neither of those is a design problem — they are a structure problem.

What your buyers are actually searching

Nobody searches your company name until they already know you. The searches that bring new work look like this:

  • [school name] term dates
  • primary schools in [town] admissions
  • [school name] Ofsted report
  • apprenticeship provider [county]
  • adult learning courses [town]

Each of those needs its own page. One page trying to cover all of them will lose to a competitor who built five.

What the site needs to include

  • A statutory information section that maps to the DfE requirements, with nothing hidden behind a PDF.
  • WCAG 2.2 AA accessibility — this is a public sector obligation, not a nice-to-have.
  • Term dates, letters and news readable in two taps on a phone.
  • A prospectus request and open-day booking flow for admissions season.
  • Course or subject pages for training providers, because learners search the course, not the college.

The part most people skip: the system behind it

Staff should be able to publish a letter or news item without emailing a developer. A simple editor plus scheduled publishing removes the bottleneck that makes most school sites go stale.

This is where a tailor-made build separates from a template. A template can look smart. It cannot route an enquiry, check a document, or chase a follow-up at 8am on a Tuesday.

What it costs

  • £350 — a compact, fast, findable site. Fine if you mainly need credibility.
  • £700 — multi-page build with a page per service or capability, structured data and proper enquiry capture. Most organisations in this sector land here.
  • £950 — a build that sells, books or processes: gated areas, uploads, integrations and automation.
  • Ongoing SEO is monthly, because ranking is an activity rather than a purchase.

How long before it shows up in Google?

Six to twelve weeks for new pages to gain traction, longer in competitive national searches. The pages that move fastest are the specific ones — a single service, a single sector, a single area — because there is far less competing for them.
