Wholesalers in Huddersfield are losing trade buyers to search

Trade buyers now research suppliers the same way consumers research restaurants — on a phone, before they ring anyone. A wholesaler without product category pages, a stated minimum order and a trade account form is invisible to every buyer who doesn't already have their number.

The buyer's search has changed

A shop owner looking for a new supplier of soft drinks, packaging or frozen goods searches before they visit. If the first four results are national distributors with proper category pages and you have a one-page site from 2015, the local advantage you actually hold never gets a hearing.

What a wholesale site needs

  • A page per product category — not a downloadable PDF price list.
  • Minimum order value and delivery radius stated openly. Buyers filter on this first.
  • A trade account application form that goes straight to your inbox.
  • Opening hours for the counter, and the cut-off time for next-day delivery.
  • Proof: how long you've traded, which sectors you supply, who vouches for you.

You do not need full ecommerce

Most wholesalers we speak to assume this means building a shop with live pricing. It usually doesn't. Trade pricing is negotiated, so the site's job is to get the buyer to open an account and ring you — not to check out. That keeps the build far simpler and cheaper.

The Leeds Road and Bradley advantage

Being on the right side of Huddersfield for the A62 and the M62 is a genuine selling point for a buyer in Leeds, Bradford or Halifax. Say it on the page. Distance and access are exactly the things a trade buyer is weighing up, and almost nobody publishes them.
